Chapter 14: 2015 Bermuda

Bermuda

We went to Bermuda for a final visit and found it very changed since 1961/2.It ended our traveling days where we began. On the flight out we had our seat belts fastened for most of the 8 hour journey .It was one of the bumpiest rides we had ever been on. This time we landed on a proper runway with tarmac .In 1960 we had to land on a field. This time we stayed at the Elbow beach hotel.

Elbow Beach Hotel

The first outing was on a local bus to the capital Hamilton which was initially unchanged. However the ships no longer tie on Front Street as the old naval dockyard is now a busy supermarket at the end of which the cruise liners are moored .

Front Street

We visited a old favorite haunt which was the zoo and aquarium and they still had a wonderful flock of deep pink flamingos which are quite well known. The most amazing trip was with a very nice older guide and he took us around the entire island in particular pointing out the”Tuckers Town” very picturesque and sporting one of the most expensive golf clubs of the world.

Flamingos

We saw the site of our old house (now gone)and looked over the Harrington Sound where there were always rays jumping in the water. We left after a memorable stay and look back with pleasure to our Bermuda days.1961-2015.
