Hi, Just I don’t know if this email reaches you in time!!! I have just read the very interesting account of your distinguished time in the RN. I was on the Troubridge at the same time as you 1961/63. Regrettably, I cannot recall you. Were you on ordnance?
I was a Junior ME when I joined HMS TROUBRIDGE did my AWK on TROUBRIDGE and passed my Killicks exam. Great times and great moments in history.

Do you know of any one else that was on HMS TROUBRIDGE during the same time as you and I

I stumbled on your website having looked up when the Macmillan/Kennedy conference took place on HMS Troubridge in Bermuda, Dec 1962. My father was SNOWI and we too lived in Bermuda at that time. We are busy writing up his memoirs at the moment. The photos of you and your wife look very familiar. I have a photo taken on an RFA en route to Trinidad – did she and I travel together in an RFA to Trinidad during that time, or maybe it is a photo of the wife of one of the crew!

Hi Penelope,

Marcus
Loved reading all about your life and seeing the photos of you all and of my mum Angela. I’m Angela’s youngest daughter Raina. X
Hi Raina ,
Im Marcus my Dads oldest son …..Unfortunately Dad passed away on the 21st Jaunuary this year but ill take note of all the commenst and pass on to my Mum. x
Lovely to see the family photographs, my mother (Angela) was adopted into your family and she often spoke affectionately about granddad but I do not remember him and we didn’t have any photographs of him, I am not even sure I ever met him as i was born in 1961, I have one of your mother (I called her Nana) taken in the Back garden at St Leonards Rd.
I have a vague memory of going in a red bubble car with you in the mid 1960’s, but I could be mistaken.
Any way I will no doubt look at this story again and read further on.
Well there you are. In life you pick up memories and sometimes the bucket gets over filled, blood heavy and from time to time you drop a few but I’ll keep my memories of Mike though he did body check, block and cheat at squash. ” Fair winds and good fishing Mike.. “
I well remember you on HMS Corunna 1956/57. I had two skippers on board her, first of all Terry Lewin and then Godfrey Place. I was EM1 Ron Howell (Emmie) we shared adjacent messes.
I have come across you whilst researching Godfrey Place and as soon as I saw your photo bingo the memories flooded back after all these years.
Hi Ron,
Im Marcus, my dads eldest son. Unfortunately he passed away earlier this year before Covid but i set up his website and monitor traffic so to speak. he did have a Ships plaque of Corunna in the Kitchen….
Cheers
Hi Michael,
Just seen your reply and am sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have a photo of him somewhere and I will dig it out. I now see why he had the nickname ‘Satch’as he played a brass instrument. And on that subject he was in our gang to visit the Tivoli gardens in Copenhagen during the 1957 Royal Visit to see Louis Armstrong, we had a ringside view of him, near enough for ‘Satchmo’ to blow spit from his trumphet all over us.
Cheers
